WoMAN & WOMAN 1.1
26 - 27. September
About the performance
WoMAN&WOMAN was nominated for a Reumert Award in the category of best dance performance in 2017.
"WoMAN & WOMAN" are two solo works presented as a double program. Side by side they blend performance, physical theatre and dance into a wild and visual experience. The performances are created in collaboration with two contrasting performers. Both works are based on the subject of femininity.
"WoMAN" is a transformative solo created and performed by Andreas Constantinou. This poetic work uses a rich visual language to invoke a lucid landscape of feminine architypes. From the virgin to the crone, between animal and human, images unfold as the performer morphs inside an intimate setting of petals and grass. Set to an original music score and created in collaboration with the dutch composer Marlou Vriens, the music fills the theatre with ghostly echoes that shift between divine choir-like melodies and atmospheric soundscapes. "WoMAN" is a visually powerful solo work that sees one male performer embark on a quest to find his own feminine self.
WOMAN is a performance in constant flux, as it invites different performers from diverse sexual and gender identities to take on the role of solo performer in order to question and challenge what femininity means to them.
Within its unique structure, each solo performer is invited into the process to devise, re-interpret and re-work artistic material in a set and structured “play space” to assert new questions and add to an ongoing artistic gender discourse around topics of femininity.
WOMAN 1.1 is an uncompromising protest performance and an artistic manifestation against the constraints of feminine stereotypes re-devised, re-questioned and performed by queer feminist performer Alice Tatge.
WOMAN in its first rendition premiered in 2016 and was performed and devised in collaboration with trans performer Daniel Mariblanca. In the future himherandit will invite more solo performers into the process in order to identify each individual’s relationship to questions surrounding notions of femininity and queer identity, becoming an active manifestation and public protest against preconceptions of gender and identity of any kind.
Back to back these two new solos’ serve as a platform for displaying two different perspectives and relationships to the feminine. Bluring the lines between what we socially perceive as femininity and toying with the binary gender systems.
