welcome to the #3 edition of
the genderhouse queer arts festival

about the festival

Once again, The GenderHouse Queer Arts Festival opens its doors to a plethora of artistic experiences that break norms, boundaries, and our everyday thinking, this year under the theme JUSTICE – JUST THIS.

Justice is the cornerstone in a world and a society where individuals are treated equally and with respect, regardless of their background and circumstances. A world where one can exercise their rights and live freely without discrimination and oppression.

For Himherandit Productions' artistic director, Andreas Constantinou, the desire for justice is paramount: "No more, no less, just this" – the simple, unwavering longing for diversity, justice, and equality. JUSTICE – JUST THIS.

The third edition of The GenderHouse Festival shines a spotlight on this theme and presents a powerful program as the stage is handed over to marginalized voices and perspectives from exceptional international artists. The audience can look forward to stories from, with, and about the queer, LGBTQIA+, feminism, POC, Indigenous people, neurodivergent individuals, and individuals living with visible and invisible functional variations.

The thought-provoking, the touching, and the provocative – all of which will undoubtedly spark conversations.

PROGRAMME

Welcome to THE GENDERHOUSE QUEER ARTS FESTIVAL 2024 – buckle up for a dynamic four-day thrill ride through performances that challenge, provoke, and illuminate our contemporary world!

In a world rife with strife, injustice, division, and conflicts, we respond with a program that reflects the urgencies of our time. Artists with a pressing need to express othered realities-from themes of mental health, rage, migration, and auditory romance to the rebellion of play, community, kinship, and queerness.

Reducing economic barriers

The price of cultural experiences is rising. Over the past seven years, the price of theater tickets has increased by 23%.* Consequently, economics are playing an increasingly significant role in determining who has the opportunity and access to experience performing arts and which types of cultural offerings audiences are financially willing to invest in.

This year's festival theme, JUSTICE - JUST THIS, is therefore not only a theme for what can be experienced at this year's festival but also for the relationship with our guests. We aim to break away from the economic mindset where one must be young, a student, or retired before considerations are made for one's financial means.

This year, we are experimenting with the "Pay What You Can" format, reducing the economic barrier for everyone, with tickets starting from 50 DKK.

It's a format built on trust and collective responsibility. Those audience members who can afford to contribute more help ensure accessibility for those who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to participate. Together we break barriers!

We look forward to welcoming EVERYONE to this year's GenderHouse Festival.

A HOUSE BECOMES A HOME WHEN IT IS FILLED WITH LOVE

The GenderHouse Festival would not be possible without our fantastic collaborators, and this year, we welcome a new family member to the house. The Aarhus-based organization LGBTQplus Slænget is ready with a social program that envelops this year's festival, providing new meeting places, insights, and connections before and after the artistic program.

The social program will be announced continuously towards the festival. Follow along here on the webpage or at our social medias.

OUR AMAzing partners

With great gratitude and acknowledgement, Himherandit Productions would like to give thanks to all collaborators and supporters over the years, and especially to all those making The GenderHouse Festival#3 happen. Without both human and financial support the festival would not exists. THANK YOU ALL!
